I interviewed Kindergarten through 8th graders about their favorite types of food, favorite school lunches, and favorite meals during different parts of the day, and there were definitely some popular answers among the students at my school.

For their favorite type of food, there was a wide variety, but the three most popular answers were Mexican, Asian, and American. Other answers included Thai, Indian, and Mediterranean.

When I asked students about their favorite school lunch, the most popular answer was BBQ Day, which is hamburgers and hot dogs, chili, and sometimes a special treat of pumpkin pie. Some other students answered egg rolls, pizza, and our math teacher Mimi said, “I’ve worked here 15 years and have never had a school lunch.”

Students’ favorite breakfasts were all over the place. Two people said their favorite breakfast was waffles, while others said ice cream, an açai bowl, eggs, cereal. This was definitely the one question that had the most variety of answers.

Lunch outside of school, had one very popular answer, with a few exceptions. The most popular lunch with 6 answers was a deli sandwich. Other answers included an apple, a burrito, and pizza. This was the question that definitely got the most unified responses.

Last but not least, I asked the students what their favorite dinners were. Tacos were a popular answer, along with fried chicken and syrup drizzled waffles, noodles while listening to NBA Young Boy, soup, and grilled cheese. Mimi answered, “Anythingthat my husband cooks.”

Overall the most popular answers were American for favorite type of food, BBQ Day for favorite school lunch, waffles for favorite breakfast, a deli sandwich for favorite lunch, and last but not least tacos for favorite dinner.
