The Mendocino K-8 7th and 8th-grade students went on a field trip to the high school to run a timed mile for state testing. Students will need to run four laps around the high school track. The event took place on April 4th, beginning at 1:30 p.m. and ending at 3:15 p.m. After students finished running, they could play various sports and games while others finished running on the high school track.

We interviewed two students, Juliana P. and Violet P., about the mile and the times they hoped for. Violet P. said, “Last year I got seven minutes and five seconds, so I’m hoping to get lower than I did.” Juliana P. said, “I am hoping for somewhere under 10 mins, like somewhere around 7 mins”. We all ran the mile at Mendocino High School instead of the K-8 because it has a much bigger track. It is closer to a mile because the entire track is roughly a quarter mile, so if we run it four times, it is more accurate since neither school has an actual mile track. We asked some people whether they wanted to run at the high school or K-8 middle school, and the majority said they would like to run at the high school because it has an actual track that is of good quality, unlike our nonexistent track.
Lots of students said they had a great time and the people on the sidelines were cheering them on as they finished up their mile. After they finished they were able to play various sports with their friends which they enjoyed also. Overall, it seems the field trip was a hit!
