According to the TallaHassee Memorial, December 2nd, 2022, music can affect our feelings and emotions in many ways. Zippy and I wanted to understand it from a teenager perspective. We decided to interview our classmates and younger students, regarding their feelings about this concept.
Does Music Motivate You? If so, what type of music…?
After interviewing some of our classmates we came to a conclusion that most of our peers had similar reactions: Maddie P., a fourth grader, said that she really enjoys country music and also upbeat music. Jacob B. mentioned that pop and rap motivate him too. Violet G. stated, “Certain music can motivate me to clean my room.”

Does Certain Music Make You Feel Different Emotions?
Although music can motivate certain people, it can also have an effect on other feelings and emotions. Maddie P. said that country music mainly makes her feel happy! Jacob B. explained that some music based on the genre affects his emotion by making him feel happy, excited, and relaxed. Jacob said that rap music makes him feel most of those emotions.
What Artists do you listen to when you’re… upset, happy, tired, etc.
When someone is feeling a certain emotion they tend to wanna listen to music that matches the vibe. Maddie P. said that she really enjoys listening to Kix Brooks when she’s happy. Jacob B. said he really likes listening to Tyler the Creator, Bruno Mars, and Katy Perry when he needs motivation.

In conclusion we found out that most of the students at Mendocino K-8 school all enjoy good up-beat music when happy and excited, and most like a more relaxed tone of music to settle down or if they are feeling sad. Overall I think that our k-8 school students have a good music taste and love music.
