On Dec 4th, 2024 Spotify Wrapped came out. It was shown that Taylor Swift was the global top artist of 2024, with more than 26.6 streams, and her album “THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT: THE ANTHOLOGY” was the biggest album of the year. The most popular top song globally was Espresso by Sabrina Carpenter.

However, when I learned more about the K8 students’ results, the most popular answers were rappers such as Kendrick Lamar, and his songs were also popular throughout the 7th and 8th class. This made sense as Kendrick Lamar was the 7th most streamed artist in the US, and his song “Not Like Us” was the second most streamed song in the US. Another answer I received often was Billie Eilish and her song “WILDFLOWER,” which came as no surprise because Billie Eilish was the 5th most streamed artist globally on spotify this year, and her album “HIT ME HARD AND SOFT” was the 2nd biggest album globally.
When I asked the 7th and 8th graders what they thought about their results, many students said they thought their results were accurate, and the majority were happy with their artists and songs. Most students listened to around 30,000 minutes to 50,000 minutes, but the highest amount of minutes I received from the 7th and 8th graders was an astounding 367,000 minutes.
While the K8’s Spotify users were happy with their wraps, there has been some debate if Spotify’s 2024 wrapped was really all that accurate. This year, unlike other years, Spotify used AI for Spotify wraps, which made many people think that this year’s wrap was inaccurate, as well as dull when it came to the actual display of users’ results. This year also did not include listeners’ top albums or genres, and instead were given their “Music Evolution,” with the theme of their music for different months. Listeners said that it did not tell them anything about their listening history, with the names for each month being strange and misleading, which may be because they were made by AI.
