The Electoral College is… confusing to say the least. It is a process used for voting for and electing presidents (Hence the name). Despite what it sounds like, it is not a physical place nor a group of people. In my opinion, this system should be removed.
The Electoral College is primarily a process with three main parts. One is the choosing of electors. These electors determine who gets elected. That is already a huge red flag that implies votes not mattering that much. When you cast a ballot, you are not directly voting for the president, but rather the chosen electors and how they use their electoral vote. Another is the meeting of the electors where they vote. Then there is also vote counting. Think of it like a baseball game where the way you win is not determined by total points, but rather how many innings the team won.

According to the Pew Research Center, 60% of Americans support diminishing the Electoral College. This is because The way the Electoral College functions is unnecessarily involved, and voting is strange.
The Electoral College system was created along with the U.S.A and was made by the founding fathers. This two hundred and thirty-seven year old system was a bad idea to begin with, and should no longer be in use. The Electoral College was created as a weird hybrid of the popular vote and congressional vote and came from a compromise between the Founding Fathers who were split on the system for electing presidents. They couldn’t decide whether or not to have presidents be elected by popular vote or congress vote (Where the congress votes, not the everyone).
The Electoral College has five-hundred and thirty-eight electors. Electors are picked from each state, and each elector gets no more than one electoral vote. The quantity of electoral votes is based on the general population. According to the Pew Research Center, 60% of Americans support diminishing the Electoral College. I think you might ask, “What would replace the Electoral College?” Well, The Direct Popular Election would replace it. The Direct Popular Election is what we all thought the election system was when we were little kids; whoever has the most votes wins. It is a large count of all of the votes, no electoral votes or anything along those lines.
